What I look at first when someone sends me a CS2 trade offer

People keep asking me how I decide whether to accept or decline a trade offer in the first thirty seconds. I've been doing this long enough to have a pretty consistent checklist in my head, so I figured I'd actually write it out. This is just what works for me. Take it or leave it.
The first thing I look at is the sender's profile.
Before I even glance at what's in the offer, I click the profile. Private profile with zero hours showing? I'm already suspicious. I'm not saying a private profile is automatically a scam, but it's a yellow flag right away. I want to see some game time, a real friend list, maybe some comments on their profile wall. If the account was created two weeks ago and has a level-3 badge, I'm closing the offer immediately. That pattern shows up constantly with scammers and I've never once regretted declining those.
Also check if they have a trade URL that matches who actually sent the offer. Impersonation is still a thing. People clone profiles, copy avatars, and hope you're moving too fast to notice. Slow down for thirty seconds and actually look.
Second thing: the item values.
Once I'm reasonably confident the sender is a real person, I start looking at what they're offering versus what they want. A lot of traders just eyeball this based on memory, but memory gets stale fast. Prices shift. I've been burned before by trusting my gut on a knife value that had dropped since I last checked it. Now I actually verify before I respond to anything over a certain threshold.

It's not a magic tool, it's just a useful reference point to make sure I'm not wildly off on what something is worth right now. The point is to cross-reference, not to take any single number as gospel.
If the trade is one-sided in their favor and they have some story about why it's fair, that's a red flag. "My friend said this knife is worth more" is not a real argument. Numbers are numbers.
Third: the float and condition of the skins.
This one matters more than most new traders realize. Two AK-47s can have the same wear label and look completely different in-game. The float value is what actually tells you where a skin sits within its wear range, and it affects both the visual quality and the resale value. A Battle-Scarred skin at 0.45 float is going to look noticeably better than one sitting at 0.74, even though they're both technically the same "condition."
I've seen people try to trade me skins where the float was at the absolute bottom of its range, which made the skin look rough, while their description made it sound like a clean piece. If you're not checking floats, you're trading blind on a key detail. The community has actually put together some solid resources for this. Fourth: any added pressure or urgency.
If someone sends a trade offer and then immediately messages me saying "accept fast, I have another buyer," that's almost always manipulation. Real traders don't operate with fake countdown timers. Urgency is a sales tactic, and in peer-to-peer trading it usually means the person knows the deal isn't great for you and wants you to skip your own verification process.
I take my time. If a deal disappears because I took five minutes to check values and floats, it wasn't a deal worth taking.
A quick note on community knowledge.
Most of what I know about spotting bad offers came from reading other people's experiences. The csgo reddit sub has had a lot of useful threads over the years about scam patterns, pricing habits, and how people approach trades. Reading through those posts, especially the cautionary ones, saved me from some mistakes early on.

* Check the sender's profile age, hours, and friend list before anything else
* Verify item values independently, don't rely on memory
* Look up the float on anything that has meaningful value
* Ignore urgency tactics completely
* If something feels off, decline and move on
